About the Project

This project initially started as a “second opinion” consultation. The client was originally planning on using another cabinet maker, but he asked me to give him feedback before he signed the contract. After showing him a variety of opportunities to improve the design, the client asked if we could simply do the job for him instead.

Part of the reason why this client was so excited to work with us was because we were able to design custom cabinets to fit the space. With standard cabinets, your options are a lot more limited.

For this particular project, creating custom cabinets allowed us to center the stove on the wall. Given the dimensions of the wall, this would have been impossible with standard cabinets.

In addition, the client wanted his door pulls to be horizontal, rather than vertical. That’s not an option with standard cabinets, but with these custom cabinets, it was easy to create the unique look he was after.

Finally, to make sure that the client got the best value possible from his custom cabinets, we finished his cabinets with low pressure laminate (LPL). This is also referred to as “thermally-fused laminate” because it uses heat to create a long-lasting finish that is far more durable than the finishes you get on standard cabinetry.

While custom cabinets do cost more than standard cabinets, the benefits more than make up for that cost—especially in terms of aesthetics and durability.
